Welcome to Real Soap: Our Story and Why It Matters

How It All Began

In 2018, my husband was diagnosed with lymphoma at 30 years old. His diagnosis and following treatment journey made us look more closely at the everyday products we were using, especially what we were putting on our skin. We became determined to make safer, cleaner choices, and that's when the seed for this business was planted.

That same year, I began learning how to make cold-process soap. With a background in chemistry, I was immediately drawn to the science behind the process and quickly fell in love with it. I set out on a journey to create a product that is simple, nourishing, and trustworthy.

Too Much Soap (Is That a Thing?)

What started as a few experimental batches quickly turned into a full-blown obsession. I was making so much soap, I was quickly running out of space. I started giving bars away just to make room for more. The response from friends and family was incredible, people loved how the soaps made their skin feel. Their encouragement gave me the confidence to take the next step and share my creations beyond my own circle.

In 2021, I officially launched my soap business under the name Ordinarily Extra. What started as a kitchen experiment had grown into something real, and I was ready to share it with everyone.

Early days = lots of trial, error, and way too much soap for two people.

And that's where my mom comes in.

From the moment I officially launched, she jumped in to help me sell at markets and events, and she's been by my side ever since. She creates beautiful accessories, helps brainstorm new fragrance blends, works the booth with me (and sometimes for me!), and even lends a hand with social media.

Her creativity, energy, and unwavering support have help shape who we are today. I may make the soap, but she helps make the magic. I truly couldn't do this without her.

Why Real Soap

In 2025, we rebranded as Real Soap, a name that truly reflects what we're about: honest ingredients, thoughtful formulas, and a product you can trust.

Everything we make is handcrafted in small batches using the traditional cold-process method. This is a slower, more hands-on approach that allows us to preserve the quality and benefits of every ingredients. We work with only plant-based oils, nourishing butters, clays, essential oils, and carefully selected fragrance oils that are always phthalate- and paraben-free.

We make sure that every single ingredient we use is skin-safe, responsibly sourced, and chosen with care. We believe in transparency, simplicity, and products that feel as good as they look.

Our mission is simple: to make beautiful, effective, and trustworthy soap that helps you feel good from the outside in.
